The European Institute of Women’s Health

The European Institute of Women’s Health (EIWH) is a non-governmental organisation founded in 1996 with the aim of promoting gender equity in public health, research and social policies across Europe. Based in Dublin, Ireland, the EIWH works on a European level to reduce inequalities in health for all but particularly due to gender, age and socioeconomic status. We do this through adopting a sex and gender-sensitive approach, and highlighting that sex and gender are important determinants of health. We bring to the GoNano project not only our background in health, but also our expertise in sex and gender issues.

In GoNano, the EIWH are specifically tasked with Understanding the role of culture, gender and communication traditions, and their implications for engagement methodologies, communication and dissemination strategies. We will analyse and map societal debates, and outline how culture, gender and communication traditions influence debates and the public understanding of nanotechnology research and innovation. In addition to this, we will also harvest, organise, analyse and visualise complex social data from social media and websites relating to gender issues in nanotechnology. The mapping will be done on national debates in the Czech Republic, the UK, Denmark, the Netherlands and Spain.
