GoNano at the Co-Change Stocktaking Virtual Workshop

On 9-10 June 2020, the EU-funded Co-Change project hosted the “Co-Change Stocktaking Virtual Workshop“. The GoNano project was represented by its coordinator Lise Bitsch, from the Danish Board of Technology Foundation.

For the workshop, Co-change* (Co-create Change in Research Funding and Performing) gathered 12 different EU-funded projects to explore the main barriers and drivers around RRI institutionalization in different EU funded projects, and share knowledge about critical implementation questions (e.g. organizational, disciplinary or cultural aspects) with experienced experts.

On the 9-10th of June GRACE, NEWHORRIZON, RRI PRACTICE, SISCODE, RICONFIGURE, NUCLEUS, JERRI, LIV:IN, PRISMA, FIT4RRI, and GoNano each present their insights on RRI related with organizational change.

During the GoNano presentation, Lise Bitsch talked about the GoNano lessons learned on the potential of co-creation as a way to enhance responsiveness to societal needs and values. In summary:

  • Researchers and businesses recognise suggestions on societal needs and values as relevant and important
  • Citizen suggestions for future nanotechnologies are very creative, and they point to new directions in research
  • The challenge is moving from abstract ideas to concrete action
  • Clear that citizens and stakeholder involvement can add value to ongoing research, but can already developing research and innovation trajectories be substantially changed?
